India Capitals were handed a three-wicket defeat by Manipal Tigers in their final league game of Legends League Cricket 2022 at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur on Saturday, October 1.

Ricardo Powell’s 52-ball 96 propelled Manipal Tigers to complete a 184-run chase while missing out on an opportunity to qualify for the playoffs. For the Capitals, Hamilton Masakadza (60), Denesh Ramdin (64), Ross Taylor (51 not out) and Pravin Tambe (2/20) were the top performers.

Winning the toss, Manipal Tigers elected to field first.

The India Capitals lost Solomon Mire early into their first innings, as the opener retired hurt at the end of the first over.

Hamilton Masakadza took charge of the batting as he raced to his fifty in 25 balls. He slammed 23 runs in the final over of the powerplay.

The Zimbabwean star would depart in the eighth over for 60, as his bat took an outside edge from a Corey Anderson delivery and went straight towards wicket-keeper Tatenda Taibu.

Denesh Ramdin and captain Ross Taylor showcased their prowess with the bat as their half-centuries helped India Capitals post 183/2 in their allotted 20 overs.

Tatenda Taibu was the first Manipal Tigers batter to be dismissed, as Pawan Suyal’s in-swing delivery went past Taibu and hit the middle stump.

Mohammad Kaif (26) and Corey Anderson (39) played important cameos to support opener Ricardo Powell (96), who set the tone for the Tigers to chase the target of 184 despite losing four wickets in their last three overs.

John Mooney (2/39) and Pravin Tambe (2/20) were India Capitals’ best bowlers, although they fell short of guiding the table-toppers to a win in the final assignment of the league phase.

Ricardo Powell of Manipal Tigers was awarded the Legend of the Match for his match-defining innings.

India Capitals, having finished at the top of the points table, will face Bhilwara Kings in the Qualifier on Sunday, October 2.
