Delhi, October 17: UP Yoddhas suffered a 29-42 defeat to Jaipur Pink Panthers in their penultimate league encounter, but the team remains mathematically alive in the race for the play-ins with one match to go.

While the evening didn’t go their way, the Yoddhas showed patches of resistance and fight, particularly through their seasoned campaigner, Surender Gill.

Gill, who has been the heartbeat of the Yoddhas’ setup for several seasons now, stood tall amid the pressure, delivering a spirited 12-point performance.

His blend of composure and creativity in raids kept UP in the contest for long stretches, especially in the first half when the game hung in the balance.

Guman Singh contributed six points through quick raids, while defenders Hitesh and Gagan Gowda chipped in with a couple of tackles apiece.

Ashu Singh and Mahender Singh worked tirelessly in defence despite facing an in-form Jaipur side that maintained control through disciplined play.

Although the scoreboard did not reflect the Yoddhas’ effort, the team’s fighting intent and never-say-die attitude were evident.

Having navigated multiple close contests and back-to-back wins earlier in the campaign, UP still have a faint but possible route to the next round if results go their way.

With one league game remaining, the Yoddhas’ focus will be on finishing strong, drawing inspiration from their senior players and the spirited performances that have defined their season.
