Dubai Capitals - owned by the GMR Group - have appointed former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan as the new team captain for the remainder of the International League T20 (ILT20) season.

The all-rounder takes over the role from Rovman Powell, under whom the Capitals currently occupy the fifth spot on the points table.

As captain, Powell led the Dubai Capitals to three wins and five defeats in nine games. On the flip side, he has been the top performer in the runs department with 320 runs at 53.33.

Yusuf Pathan's first assignment as the new Capitals captain comes against the MI Emirates in their last league match at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. Victory in the fixture will keep Dubai Capitals in the mix for the Playoffs.

During a five-year international career for India, Yusuf played 57 ODIs and 22 T20Is. However, he has been more prolific in the T20 format, with 4,852 runs at a strike rate of 139.34.

We wish Yusuf Pathan the best of luck in his new role.
