The Dubai Capitals pulled off a thrilling four-wicket victory against Desert Vipers and moved to second place on the ILT20 2024 on Thursday. The Capitals restricted the Vipers to 169/6 before chasing down their target in 20 overs.
Ben Dunk, who played a scintillating knock of 59 runs from 30 balls, expressed that the team had complete confidence in Rovman Powell and Jason Holder when they needed four runs off the last over, “It got pretty tight in the end. They bowled a really good last over and took the game deep. But we were confident we would win with world-class finishers - Rovman Powell and Jason Holder at the crease.”
Dunk added, “The Vipers were coasting to a big score at one stage, and we did well to claw the game back. The ball was gripping a little bit, and that’s probably why the game went deep. It’s great to get back into winning ways, and hopefully, we can build on this momentum.”
When asked about his performance, Dunk said, “I got a boundary early in my innings, and that got me going. I didn’t want to get into a shell. I wanted to build partnerships and give enough time to my partners to get set.”
Dunk also said that he was disappointed about missing out on a few opportunities earlier in the tournament, “I missed out on a couple of matches in Sharjah, which was disappointing on a personal level and at a team level. We didn’t play our best cricket there and were keen to right those wrongs. It’s nice to get some runs on the board, and hopefully, I can build on this performance.”
The Dubai Capitals will be seen next in action when they take on Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
